Being around Kalong Island around sunset gives our guests a unique opportunity to see the massive bats flying over their heads heading to Flores Island. Kalong is a popular tourism spot to end the even at to see this rare site. Kalong is also known as Koaba Island by the locals, which actually means Flying Foxes or big bats. The island is mostly covered by mangrove forests, which is why thousands of bats live on the island in the daytime. This coverage protects them from the heat from the sun on a typical hot day in Komodo National Park. This island is actually known to have been kept secret by the locals and no one goes on the island.
